Drip Irrigation vs. Conventional Sprinklers

With a tight economy, penny pinching is a must. If you have a conventional sprinkler system, you may want to convert it to a dripper irrigation system. While an automatic sprinkler system is nice for watering large lawn areas, it is not as efficient when watering plants and garden areas. Drip watering systems are much more water efficient and are relatively easy to install on a basic sprinkler head connection. Drip systems are especially good for vegetable gardens and rows of shrubs. You can also use a watering timer to automate your drippers or micro sprayers just as you would a regular underground irrigation system. Dripping irrigation systems are also nice if the area where you live is experiencing a drought and cut backs need to be made.
Sometimes, water coming from conventional sprinkler heads evaporates before it reaches its intended destination. With water emitters and mircro sprinklers, water drips to specific areas before evaporation can occur. Water sprinkler systems may also causing water logging or flooding while water drip systems are less likely to do so. Drip irrigation systems also have more accurate and precise water coverage where a lawn irrigation system can be wasteful and cover areas that do not need water.
To save yourself some money and cut down on water usage, consider converting your lawn sprinkler system to a drip irrigation system. Installation is simple and you can purchase drip converter kits with all the parts you need to make the switch.
