Maintaining Your Underground Water Irrigation System

• Check and replace screens or filters at the beginning of each sprinkler season - Be sure to check all filters and screens and replace them if needed. When you check each filter, you can clean it or simply replace it to make sure it is working properly.
• Check sprinkler nozzles for hard water and mineral build-up - Sprinkler nozzles can get clogged from minerals or hard water if this is an issue in your area. Check nozzles before the sprinkler season begins to make sure they are clean and ready to sprinkle.
• Make sure sprinkler valves are working - Check your solenoid valves and solenoids to make sure all electrical connections are secure. Make sure the sprinkler system valves are secured properly and that solenoids are working. Also be sure to check valve diaphragms for any damage.
• Ensure sprinkler spray heads are installed properly and are at the correct settings - Be sure to check your sprinkler heads to make sure they are all connected to sprinkler risers properly. Check all water sprinklers to ensure that they are all spraying correctly. Test each sprinkler zone to make sure all spray heads are working to your specifications.
• Be sure the watering timer works - Check your automatic water timer to make sure all settings are correct. Test each sprinkler station to make sure there are no electrical or technical glitches. Check the wires and transformer to ensure that everything is in good working order.

During the yard watering season, be sure to watch for any inconsistencies in lawn sprinkling. Catching these inconsistencies early on will save you money. If you properly maintain your garden watering system, you will save money over time and be able to keep repair and replacement costs down.
